The Hippodrome Casino, in London’s Leicester Square, has announced the launch of its online casino, which has been built by Microgaming and is operated by Betway Group. The online poker will come from PokerStars and there will also be an app for mobile and tablet users.

George Constantinou, the Hippodrome’s director of online operations, said: “We have put a huge amount of effort into creating a true synergy between the clubhouse and our online offer, including the breadth of gaming available and the look and feel of the site.

“We have even incorporated photography of the Hippodrome itself so players can recognise rooms and locations throughout the venue.

“Online players can load their accounts if they choose to visit us in Leicester Square, and we’re offering incentives to do so. I think it's important to encourage our online customers to also experience our award-winning venue,” said Constantinou.

The Hippodrome Casino, the UK’s largest, was opened in July 2012, replacing the legendary London nightclub of the same name. The Hippodrome had become one of the capital's most talked about venues during its sixties and seventies heyday when it was known, appropriately, as The Talk of the Town.

The theme of today was big. For instance, it didn't take long for us to realise we had a huge tournament on our hands here at The Hippodrome Casino in London's West End. Fairly swiftly the PokerStars Festival London High Roller became the largest ever PokerStars High Roller to be held at this venue.

You can win your seat to one of countless PokerStars live events around the world. Click here to open an account and get started.

By the time late registration closed, 166 players (plus 12 re-entries) had participated and those who prospered had to wait awhile to find out what was up top for the eventual winner. When the announcement came it was - you guessed it - big. Along with a novelty cheque, the winner will collect £67,290, the largest pay out for a High Roller event at The Hippodrome. It's not only the payout that's gone up in size, so has the trophy. No side-event spadie here.

Of course, the winner won't be the only player leaving with cash, the £345,320 prize pool will be divvied up between the top 34 finishers, with a min-cash worth £3,110. The full payout structure can be found here.

At time of writing, just 78 players remain in contention for a cash and they'll play on till roughly 1.50am tonight and then return for Day 2 at 2pm, when they'll play down to a winner.

While this one winds down tomorrow the £990 Main Event, which has a £400,000 guarantee, will just be getting started. That also starts at 2pm. We'll be back then to continue coverage but you can follow what remains of Day 1 of this one with our friends at PokerNews.

Overnight chip counts and the seat draw will be on the blog as soon as we have it. Also keep an eye on the @PokerStarsLive twitter account and download the PokerStars LIVE App, where the information will also be available.
